DECENTRALISED PERFORMANCE

I started the performance as a meeting in which I read those gathered there my declaration. I informed them that in line with the theme of the festival – decentralisation – I had decided to relinquish my position of performer and leave all decisions in this performance, and its execution, to them, the public. I proposed that a decision should first be made as to whether there should be a performance at all.

A majority voted that the performance was on. Then the public had to decide whether they wanted me to lead the debate and the voting or whether they would choose someone else present for the task. The decision was made that I should run the debate.

After that, there was a lively debate, lots of proposals were put forwards, but at the end those points that had got the most votes were performed:

1. bowing I – gesture of respect that the audience should give the artist (proposal of Siniša Labrović)

2. bowing II – gesture of respect that the artist should make to Siniša Labrović, as representative of the public (proposal of Branko Cerovac)

3. short collective meditation to the sound of Mmmmmmmmm (proposal of  Marijan Crtalić)

4. dancing Užičko kolo (proposal of Marijan Crtalić)

5. a roundtable – all present to sit in a circle, no division of the space into a bit for the public and a bit for the performers (proposal of Đorđe Jandrić).

The wording of the declaration at the beginning:

Welcome to the Decentralised Performance!

As the title suggests, in this performance I’m abandoning my role as author and potential performer and leaving all key decisions about the performance as well as its execution are up to you, i.e. the audience.

In accordance with this, you will decide if the performance will be held at all and what its form and content will be. If the majority decides on the execution of the performance, I suggest you put forward your ideas and wishes about what you would like to perform.

We can talk about the proposals made, and then vote. I suggest performing the proposal or proposals which get the most votes.

In so doing, it is understood that the will of majority cannot intrude upon the will of individual, and that everyone has the right to decide whether to participate in the agreed performance or its individual parts or not.

The first two points that need to be voted for are:

1. Do you want me to moderate the gathering?

2. Do you want the performance to be held?

1. klanjanje I – gesta poštovanja koju je publika iskazala umjetnici (prijedlog Siniše Labrovića) (prijedlog Siniše Labrovića);

2. klanjanje II – gesta poštovanja koju je umjetnica iskazala Siniši Labroviću kao predstavniku publike (prijedlog Branka Cerovca (prijedlog Branka Cerovca);

3. kratka kolektivna meditacija na zvuk «Mmmmmm!» (prijedlog Marijana Crtalića);

4. plesanje Užičkog kola (prijedlog Marijana Crtalića);

O iznesenim prijedlozima možemo razgovarati, a zatim, glasati.

1. Želite li da ja moderiram skup?

2. Želite li da se performans održi?
